NEOFRAME ยท MARK 171
Armour has always been couture.
The finest plate ever made was commissioned, fitted to a single body, signed by its workshop and etched at a cost exceeding the price of a house. It was not built for the battlefield first. It was built for the arrival at the battlefield, for the minute beforehand, when everyone present establishes who has come.
NEOFRAME is that category, resumed.
Mark 171 is seated at the sternum and grown outward, hand-finished in an alloy that will not hold a fingerprint. The pauldrons are asymmetric because the client was asymmetric. Every seam falls where that client's own body already creases. There is one. There will only ever be one.
The dome is the part that confuses people. It is transparent. It offers markedly less protection than the materials on hand, and this is not an oversight, and it was not a cost decision.
You are meant to be seen inside it.
That is the entire product. Armour that conceals its owner has failed the brief. The purpose of arriving in NEOFRAME is that the field knows exactly who has come, and what it cost, and what that implies about how long the engagement is expected to last.
The brochure reads: unleash the cyborg within.
Every Mark recovered from the field has been undamaged.
Not every client has been recovered.
designer's notes
This is laid out as an advertisement, not a portrait, and that framing is the concept rather than a presentation choice. Headline, product name, model number, specification block, tagline. Once the layout is commercial, everything inside it becomes a product, including the person.
Studio grey, seamless, with product lighting rather than cinematic lighting. Deliberately unromantic. The rest of the range is lit for drama. This one is lit for a catalogue, because the argument is that armour is a purchasable good.
Three-quarter angle rather than frontal. Frontal is portraiture and confrontation. Three-quarter is how objects are photographed for sale. That single camera decision does more to sell the concept than any amount of surface detail.
The chrome is one continuous poured form with no panel lines and no fasteners. In luxury goods, seamlessness signals expense: a single piece is harder to make than an assembly. The material is making a price claim.
The dome is transparent, which contradicts the entire function of armour. That contradiction is the product. Concealment would be a design failure here, because the purpose of the object is identification.
The magenta interior is the only saturated colour in the image and it sits inside the one transparent component. The single thing you are meant to look at is simultaneously the most protected and the most exposed.
Cables trail out of frame. That implies infrastructure off-camera, a system this belongs to, which is what distinguishes a product from a prop.
